The UMGC offers DNA extraction using a wide range of commercially available kits, bead beating methods and homebrew protocols developed at the UMGC for high-throughput extraction in 96-well plate format.
We also offer RNA Extraction.
We routinely extract DNA from the following tissue sources. If you have tissue not listed below, please contact us.
The assessment of DNA purity and concentration by UV spectroscopy (NanoDrop) and fluorimetry (PicoGreen quantification) is included in the price of most services.

“Quick-and-Easy” for Mouse Genotyping.
Tissue samples (mouse tail tip, toe or ear clippings) may be submitted in 96-well PCR plates completely covered in 100% ethanol. Please note, this method forgoes certain quantification and purification steps when unnecessary for downstream processing. | 1-any | sample | $1.04 | $1.20
MoBio PowerSoil for Stool, Soil, and Other Environmental Samples.
Yields depend on sample type. | 1-95 | sample | $24.65 | $28.35
96-any | sample | $12.94 | $15.16
High-throughput Plant Extraction.
Minimum submission is one plate of plant material. Note that a pilot extraction using this homebrew UMGC method will be required for any species or tissue type/format that the UMGC has not yet encountered. | 1-any | plate of 96 | $631.62 | $730.32

The assessment of DNA purity and concentration is by both UV spectroscopy (NanoDrop) and fluorimetry (PicoGreen quantification), usually included in most of DNA extraction services. Upon request, we can also provide DNA sizing either via Gel or Agilent Bio-analyzer.
We use a wide range of commercially available kits, bead beating methods as well as Home-Brew methods, listed below are some common methods. If you have your own method please contact us.
UMGC has the capability of archiving your sample with 2D-Barcoded tubes/Plates and a retrieval system. This also enables us to re-rack/cherry pick samples for future downstream applications at the UMGC or ship them to an off-site location.
