AVITI Upgrade Complete: Sequencing Costs Drop Again at UMGC
September 15, 2025
The UMN Genomics Center is pleased to announce the successful upgrade of our five Element AVITI24 sequencers to the latest operating system. This upgrade delivers a 50% increase in output for 150-cycle and 300-cycle kits (600-cycle kit output unchanged), while AVITI pricing remains the same.
| 300-cycle Kit | Previous Output | Upgraded Output |
|---|---|---|
| Low Output Run | 250 M | 375 M |
| Medium Output Run | 500 M | 750 M |
| High Output Run | 1 B | 1.5 B |
As a result, AVITI sequencing is now 33% less expensive per million reads (or per GB) compared to fiscal year 2025 (FY25). This marks the third drop in AVITI sequencing cost over the past two years, dropping by a staggering 62% – 71% since FY24, thanks to ongoing innovation by Element and the UMGC’s commitment to the platform at scale.
The AVITI now saves researchers several hundred to one thousand dollars per billion reads, relative to the most affordable Illumina platform. Best of all, these gains come with no compromise in quality. Sequencing on the AVITI continues to deliver Q-scores > 40, as confirmed in published studies and our own field testing of the new operating system. Researchers finally have the rare trifecta with the AVITI—fast, affordable, and high-quality sequencing.
