Another AVITI sequencing price drop for a happier new year!

December 19, 2024

As was announced in mid-2024, the UMGC introduced faster, higher-quality, and more affordable sequencing to the UMN last June by installing a suite of five Element AVITI next-generation sequencers. The response from you, our users, has been overwhelmingly positive. Over the past six months, most of you have transitioned your work onto the AVITI (see Figure 1).

This increased adoption has allowed us to purchase AVITI reagents at steeper discounts, enabling us to pass along further cost reductions in an end-of-year price drop—just in time for the holidays! On top of the ≈ 40% price reductions announced just last July, AVITI sequencing now falls a further 20%, on average. View our new reduced AVITI rates

A plot of the drop in our rates over the past 18 months illustrates how dramatically our users’ shift to the AVITI, and the resulting volume discounts achievable have lowered your costs for NGS experimentation (see Figure 2).

In fact, with the new pricing now in place, sequencing on the AVITI is less expensive than on the Illumina NovaSeq X Plus 25B, which until now had been our most affordable option (see Figure 3).

For Illumina users who are considering transitioning to the AVITI, we have conducted benchmarking studies to evaluate and compare the quality metrics between the two platforms. Results demonstrate that AVITI delivers comparable performance for 16S V4V5 libraries and RNA-Seq libraries, ensuring a smooth transition without compromising data quality.
